Grief & Loss

Resources for clients moving through bereavement, relationship endings, identity loss, and the non-linear shape of grief.

Each psychoeducation page is checked against current Australian source authorities (RANZCP, APS, AASW, OT Australia, Beyond Blue, Headspace, Black Dog Institute) and updated at least annually.

Modern grief research has largely moved past linear-stage models. The handouts here give clients language for what they are experiencing without suggesting they should feel any particular thing in any particular order — and pair that with frames for what supports help.

Frequently asked questions

When does grief become a clinical concern?+

Prolonged Grief Disorder (DSM-5-TR) describes persistent, disabling grief lasting at least 12 months in adults. Most acute grief reactions are not pathological and benefit from validation, social support, and time, not formal treatment.

Can grief apply to non-death losses?+

Yes — relationship endings, diagnoses, redundancies, identity shifts, and pet loss all activate the same emotional circuitry. The handouts here are written generically for that reason.
