SMART Goals
SMART is a framework for setting effective goals that are more likely to be achieved. Use this worksheet to transform vague wishes into actionable goals.
The SMART Framework
S - Specific
What exactly do you want to accomplish? Who is involved? What resources are needed?
Instead of: "Exercise more"
Try: "Go for a 30-minute walk in my neighborhood"
M - Measurable
How will you know when you've achieved it? What metrics will you track?
Instead of: "Read more books"
Try: "Read for 20 minutes before bed each night"
A - Achievable
Is this realistic given your current situation? What might make it challenging?
Start small and build up rather than setting yourself up for failure.
R - Relevant
Why does this matter to you? How does it align with your values and larger goals?
Goals that connect to what matters most are more motivating.
T - Time-bound
By when will you achieve this? What is your deadline?
Instead of: "Someday"
Try: "By the end of this month"
Example
Vague goal: "Be healthier"
SMART goal: "I will walk for 20 minutes during my lunch break, 3 times per week, for the next month."
